The trick takes seconds to perfect

If you’re planning a birthday bash, hen do or leaving party, you might be tasked with the job of blowing up an endless stream of balloons to really bring the event to life. Statement balloons are certainly in vouge currently, as extravagant balloon arches and displays have risen in popularity thanks to Instagram influencers flaunting them all over our feeds.

Ordering a large amount of helium balloons at a store that blows them up for you can be expensive, so many party organisers take matters into there own hands. But it can be more difficult than it looks. A party expert has taken to TikTok to tell us all how we’ve been tying up helium balloons all wrong, giving handy advice on how to perfectly tie the ribbon on your decoration to keep it as secure as possible.

Shared under the aptly-named handle @youneedtopartyup, the video reveals a step by step guide to seamless balloon tying that not only helps to make your balloon last longer, but looks a lot neater too.

After captioning the video “don’t tell me you still don’t know this trick,” the party perfectionist ties the ribbon to the base of the balloon, leaving a slight gap at the end of the balloon film.

They then roll up the excess foil tightly, before the securing the string underneath with a double knot.

The trick leaves you with a tidy-looking finish, as there’s no excess foil at the base of the balloon and the triple knot should keep it secure while helping the balloon to retain its full, blown-up look for longer.

People ran to the comments section to share their gratitude for the trusty hack, with one person saying: “Didn’t know this thank you so much no more fly away balloons”.

Another was relieved to come across the clip ahead of organising a party of their own. They said: “Good to know. I’m filling like 20 balloons tomorrow”.

The simple yet satisfying hack was news to many TikTok users, as one person asked: “Who knew?!?” while someone else said “I am always messing up on this”.

In another tutorial posted on the TikTok page, a balloon guru shows viewers how to make macaroon-shaped decorations with zip ties.

The woman blows up a round foil balloon before gently adding zip ties around the centre of the balloon. She then adds balloon glue, and covers the area with two long, thin balloons that give the effect of macaroon filling.

The finished look looks far more professional than you’d expect, and could be a great trick to try for your next event.
