Zach Ertz injury update: Cardinals TE out for season after suffering knee injury vs. Rams

Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz suffered a knee injury after making a 12-yard catch in the first quarter of Arizona’s Week 10 game against the Rams. He was able to walk off the field under his own power but went straight to the blue medical tent.

However, shortly thereafter, he was carted into the locker room. Arizona deemed him “questionable” to return.

A day later, the Cardinals learned Ertz will be on the shelf for a while.

Here’s the latest on Ertz’s knee injury:

Zach Ertz injury update

Zach Ertz will miss the rest of the 2022 season due to the injury he sustained against the Rams, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.

Ertz has been a key cog in Arizona’s offense to begin the 2022 season. He had played 86 percent of the team’s snaps entering Week 10, by far the most among tight ends on the roster.

Without the 32-year-old, the Cardinals will have to rely on some of the depth they have at the position, which is talented but unproven.

Below is a look at the tight ends the Cardinals have on their active roster behind Ertz:

Rank Player
1 Trey McBride
2 Stephen Anderson

McBride had played the second-most tight end snaps for the Cardinals entering Week 10. The second-round rookie from Colorado State was the top tight end selected in the 2022 NFL Draft but has recorded just three catches for 24 yards to date.

Meanwhile, Anderson is a veteran, but he isn’t much of a receiving threat. He has recorded one catch for 2 yards this season, but his experience could prove valuable Sunday if McBride struggles.

The Cardinals also have eight-year pro Maxx Williams on the practice squad, so he could get playing time going forward. The former Raven has no receptions this season after recording 39 catches for Arizona over the last three years combined.
