‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 Casting Is Seriously ‘Dope’ with New Stars!

Date:

Alright, hockey drama fans, get ready because ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 is looking seriously ‘dope’ with some fresh faces hitting the ice! According to recent reports, Daniel Diemer and Shaheen Jafargholi are joining the cast, set to portray Ryan Price and Fabian Salah, respectively. This casting news is generating quite a buzz, and these new stars are poised to bring even more captivating storytelling to the breakout gay hockey drama that fans can’t get enough of. It’s straight up exciting to see the series expand its world with such promising additions.

Daniel Diemer, a well-known talent from Netflix’s ‘The Half of It’ and Disney+’s ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians,’ steps into the role of Ryan Price. As the article states, Ryan is a tough guy enforcer who, ‘lowkey,’ grapples with anxiety off the ice. Shaheen Jafargholi, recognized for his work in ‘War,’ ‘The Agency,’ and ‘Lost Boys and Fairies,’ will portray Fabian Salah, an aspiring musician. Their love story is a central pillar of Rachel Reid’s novel ‘Tough Guy,’ which is the third installment in her ‘Game Changers’ series, upon which ‘Heated Rivalry’ is based. Ryan was even briefly mentioned in the first season, popping up in a conversation between leading men Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov.

These two aren’t the only ones joining the roster for Season 2, ‘no cap.’ The production has been busy, adding a whole squad of talent over the past month. Justice Smith, Charlie Gillespie, Emily Hampshire, Edvin Ryding, Robert Naylor, Sabrina Jalees, and Priyanka have all been announced. Hampshire and Priyanka are slated to play Vanessa and Tarek, who are Fabian’s best friends, also hailing from Reid’s ‘Tough Guy’ novel. This ensemble cast is definitely bringing a fresh dynamic to the series, and fans are ‘highkey’ hyped to see them in action.

Delving into the source material, the novel ‘Tough Guy’ showcases Ryan’s journey while he’s part of the Toronto team. During this time, he’s joined by fellow Season 2 additions Troy Barrett, portrayed by Gillespie, and Wyatt Hayes, played by Naylor. It’s interesting to note that, as the story unfolds, both Troy and Wyatt eventually move on to play alongside Ilya in Ottawa. This intricate web of interconnected characters across different teams really ‘hits different’ and promises a rich, layered narrative for the upcoming season, maintaining the deep lore of the book series.

Executive producers Jacob Tierney and Brendan Brady expressed their enthusiasm for the new cast members. They remarked that Fabian and Ryan infuse the world Rachel Reid created with ‘a distinctive energy.’ According to their statement, these characters are ‘bold, complicated, and deeply compelling,’ and finding actors who could embody these multifaceted personalities was crucial. They lauded Daniel and Shaheen for bringing ‘such confidence and emotional honesty’ to their roles, eager for audiences to witness how they make these characters their own. It’s clear the creative team has a strong vision for the upcoming season.

‘Heated Rivalry’ is produced by Accent Aigu Entertainment in association with Bell Media, a collaboration that brought the award-winning first season to life. That initial season was adapted from the second novel in the ‘Game Changers’ series, also titled ‘Heated Rivalry,’ focusing on the ever-complicated ‘situationship’ between Shane and Ilya, who are celebrated hockey talents and on-ice rivals. The first novel, ‘Game Changers,’ centered on Scott Hunter and Kip Grady, serving as secondary material. For Season 2, the show draws from Reid’s sixth novel, ‘The Long Game,’ which continues Shane and Ilya’s story, now in a committed relationship they must hide publicly. Furthermore, ‘Role Model,’ a novel taking place concurrently, will also be source material, exploring Troy’s romance with Harris Drover.

The creative force behind the series, Jacob Tierney, serves as creator, writer, director, and executive producer, alongside Brendan Brady and Jayme Alter Wilson. Lori Fischburg and Liane Cunje are producers, with author Rachel Reid herself acting as a consulting producer, ensuring the adaptation stays true to its roots. Mike Goldbach joins the team as a co-writer for Season 2. With such a dedicated and talented crew both in front of and behind the cameras, ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 is set to be a significant event for fans, delivering more of the drama and heart they’ve come to love. It’s ‘giving’ everything we could ask for and more, periodt.
