Dyson, the global brand known for its highly engineered everyday products, has entered the oral care market with the Dyson CameraJet, an electric toothbrush featuring a camera and a jet that combines brushing with technology designed to identify and clean the gaps between teeth.
Development and Features
The CameraJet uses a tiny camera with a 100,000-pixel resolution to analyze 28 live images every second, detecting gaps between teeth and emitting a cone-shaped blast of mouthwash to clean them out. The brush head oscillates nearly 1,000 times per second, while the angle of oscillation constantly changes to improve effectiveness.
The toothbrush also features a replaceable brush head with softer outer bristles and stiffer inner bristles, as well as an air bladder that maintains a constant pressure in the mouthwash reservoir.
Oral Care’s Beauty Era
The Dyson CameraJet represents a shift in the oral care industry, moving away from traditional clinical language and towards a more aspirational approach, emphasizing whole-mouth wellness and sensorial experiences. With the global market valued at approximately $37.8 billion in 2024, premium oral care brands are seeing a massive opportunity to convince consumers that oral care deserves the same investment and pleasure as skincare.
New entries to the oral care category are taking a new approach, with an expanded focus on whole-mouth wellness, formulas and formats borrowed from beauty, and sensorial products designed to be displayed and enjoyed.
