Airbnb this week launched a new program that helps people find apartments to host on the service part time, and when it’s convenient for them to do so.
The Airbnb-friendly apartments feature(Opens in a new window) aims to make it easier for renters to “share their space” by renting it out only some of the time.
Whether you’re looking to turn a spare bedroom into spare cash or sublet the entire flat while traveling, renters can browse more than 175 Airbnb-friendly apartment buildings in more than 25 markets across the US.
Prospective renters can visit airbnb.com/airbnb-friendly(Opens in a new window) to explore nationwide listings at various price points, complete with exterior and interior photos, floor plans, building amenities, and nearby services.
An “interactive, custom-built calculator” takes into consideration options like dwelling size and expected availability to provide an estimate of how much a renter could earn each month through part-time hosting.

This new program taps into what Airbnb calls “the economic benefits of hosting:”
“Airbnb was founded during the Great Recession when Brian and Joe needed help affording their rent, and now Airbnb-friendly apartments build on that founding story by making it easier for people to recap the economic benefits of hosting,” according to Chief Strategy Officer Nathan Blecharzyck. “As the cost of living continues to rise, renters can use the extra income earned by hosting part-time on Airbnb to contribute to their rent, save for a home, or pay for other living expenses.”
