Apple Back-to-School Deals: Save Big on Macs and iPads

When you calculate value for money, Apple is often at the top of the pack. Its laptops, desktops, and tablets feature high build quality and solid hardware—but you do pay for it. You can purchase Apple products from myriad retailers nowadays, and we’ve seen some of the best discounts on Amazon. And purchases from Amazon include the same one-year warranty service, AppleCare, that is included in purchases made directly from Apple.

One of the most popular ways to save is via the company’s educational discount. If you’re a student, a parent with a kid in school, or a teacher or school staffer, you can upload your ID to the Apple Education Store and access serious savings when you make a purchase directly from Apple. In addition, qualified purchasers walk away with a $100 or $150 gift card.

The Air has grown to be a standout of Apple’s product line. When we reviewed the 13-inch M1-based Air in 2020, we gave it high marks across the board and an Editors’ Choice award. Great battery life, a gorgeous clear display, and high-quality input options make it an excellent laptop to start a school year. If you need even higher performance, the sale also includes the luxurious 15-inch MacBook Air with Apple’s new M2 processor, which we called “a massive upgrade to an already iconic laptop” in our review.

The high-performance MacBook Pros will put a heavier hit on your wallet, but you get one of the most finely tuned multipurpose laptops on the market. We gave a rave review to the 16-inch MacBook Pro, saying it “marries a proven, immaculate design with a fireball M2 Max CPU for fierce power in media creation, gaming, and high-end professional tasks.” Whether you’re editing video, making digital art, writing code or gaming, this laptop will handle it with ease. Even better, the battery life is staggering—over 24 operational hours on a single charge.

The tablet form factor makes a lot of sense for students who want to take notes by hand, record lectures, and generally interface digitally with their classes without the hassle of an entire laptop. Or they can just watch TikToks. The iPad Air is Apple’s lightweight tablet, but it delivers all of the performance they’ll need at an affordable price. When we reviewed this model, we called it “the epitome of a mobile tablet, with a nearly perfect balance of features and performance.” All configurations are $50 off during the sale at Apple, and come with a $100 Apple gift card.

For a little more oomph, the iPad Pro is basically a MacBook Pro minus the keyboard, delivering serious computing power to a crystal-clear Mini LED screen. In our review, we said that display is “the finest screen we’ve ever seen on a slate,” and praised the “connectivity options that the latest MacBooks can’t touch.” This is a wildly fast tablet that downloads quickly over Wi-Fi or 5G, has 12MP cameras on both sides, LiDAR sensors, and solid battery life. Developers are just starting to scratch the surface of the power this baby can provide.

iMac

The 2021 redesign of the iMac line injected some much-needed power into Apple’s all-in-one desktop unit. The unveiling of the M1 processor supercharged the capabilities of the line, enabling a bunch of new functionality like improved image processing. The other shocking thing is how thin this computer is—the screen is under half-an-inch thick, less than some models of iPhone. In our review, we praised the new chassis colorways, powerful sound system, and the gorgeous screen that supports 1 billion colors (the entire P3 gamut). Three models are on offer for $100 off retail plus a $150 gift card.

Mac Mini

Yes, Apple makes great screens, but what if you already have a screen? That’s the problem the Mac mini solves. This compact little aluminum box delivers solid performance courtesy of the M2 processor at a great price. When we reviewed it, we praised the small form factor and light weight—under 3 pounds. Inside the box, there’s your choice of an 8-core or 10-core CPU and 10-core or 16-core GPU. On the back, you’ll find two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, a HDMI port, gigabit Ethernet, and a headphone jack. This is $200 off retail with a $100 gift card.

The deals listed at Apple.com also include 20% off the AppleCare service program, which is an absolute must. Repair or replacement of an out-of-warranty Apple product can get pricey, so having that covered is well worth the cost. Whatever model you choose, these Apple back-to-school deals won’t last forever, so get them before the first bell rings.
