The Bears hadn’t even kicked off ahead of their 1 p.m. ET start at the Vikings before they committed their first mistake.
Eagle-eyed viewers noted how Chicago’s equipment managers misspelled fourth-year running back David Montgomery’s name on the back of his jersey.
It reads, “Montogomery.”

Off to a great start, Bears. It’s uncertain who is directly responsible for the misspelling, but Chicago lists five people under “equipment” in the team’s list of football operations personnel.

If the equipment snafu is any indication, it could be a long day for the Bears, who already have plenty to worry about amid a 2-2 start this season. Starting quarterback Justin Fields has a paltry 471 passing yards through four games entering Sunday’s competition and has been sacked 16 times this season (good for third-most in the NFL).
Montgomery, meanwhile, has 159 yards in three games played this season, including a 122-yard outing in Week 2 vs. the Packers.
The issue could be indicative of a team that has failed to get the small things right amid a 2-2 start to the season. The Bears need to clean up the small things in order to have a season worth remembering, even if that starts in the equipment room.
Or, it could just be a small mistake that’s not a make-or-break issue for the Bears — more of a funny thing to note. It likely depends on your viewpoint of the Bears.
Either way, ‘Montogomery’ and Chicago will try to advance to 3-2 on the season in a pivotal NFC North game vs. the Vikings.
