A woman has refused to attend her sister’s wedding because she won’t be able to bring her five-month-old baby with her – but the bride is furious with her decision

Hosting a child-free wedding isn’t an uncommon concept for couples, but if you want to keep people under a certain age away from your big day, then you have to be prepared for the parents of those kids to also refuse to attend.
Childcare costs can be expensive, and depending on the location of your wedding venue in relation to where your loved ones live, it might involve them leaving their kids overnight, which many parents would be opposed to.
But one bride seemingly wasn’t prepared for people to drop out of her wedding after she made it child-free, as she was left seething when her own sister told her she wouldn’t be able to come – because she’ll have a newborn baby.

The bride’s sister explained in a post on Reddit that she’s currently pregnant, and by the time of her sister’s wedding, she’ll be the proud mum of a five-month-old baby.
Although she wants to attend her sister’s wedding, she’s been told she won’t be able to bring her little one with her so has said she won’t be able to come as she doesn’t want to leave her baby – and now her sister is fuming.
She wrote: “My sister, let’s say her name’s Lisa, is getting married later this year. The wedding is child-free.
“I’m currently pregnant and at the time of the wedding will have a 5-month-old baby. I asked Lisa if she could come as well, but Lisa said no. I accepted that and told her I won’t be able to attend. I don’t feel comfortable leaving my young kid with a sitter and my family would be at the wedding.
“Lisa’s pretty p***ed off and said I’m trying to act holier-than-thou and punishing her for having a child-free wedding. She said she wants me to be there and give a speech as the sister of the bride, but I told her I can’t attend if I can’t bring my baby.
“She replied some of her friends have kids and they know a lot of trusted sitters, and she’ll give me the numbers, but I’ve refused. Our mum said she could stay home with the baby while I attend a part of the ceremony, and then she’ll come (and I’ll go home) but Lisa wants our parents to be there the whole time.
“I don’t know, I’m just looking out for myself and my kid but I might be being an a**hole. Lisa’s upset that I’m not attending.”
Commenters on the post were on the mum-to-be’s side, as they said that while there’s nothing wrong with child-free events, parents should have the right to not attend if they don’t want to leave their kids.
One person said: “People are allowed to have child-free weddings, they are not allowed to be offended when people don’t come. Honestly, I would always have chosen my kids.”
While another added: “Nothing wrong with wanting a child-free wedding but don’t be p***ed off when someone with children can’t attend. I totally get not wanting to leave bub at home with a sitter, especially when they are that young. Your sister will just have to get over it, she can’t expect you to ditch your baby just for her wedding.”
And a third wrote: “Your sister has absolutely every right not to have children at her wedding. However, your sister has made that choice while also needing to accept the potential consequences of that choice. Your child comes first and she should know that.”
