Dak Prescott injury update: Cowboys QB ‘good to go’ vs. Buccaneers despite practice scare

There weren’t nearly as many questions about Dak Prescott’s health entering the 2022 NFL season as there were when he returned to the field in 2021.

But then, Thursday’s practice rolled around. And suddenly, the 29-year-old Cowboys quarterback found himself on the injury report again ahead of Sunday night’s opener against the Buccaneers.

Prescott was listed as “limited” on Dallas’ injury report with a foot injury on Thursday. He downplayed the designation and blamed his shoes for the issue after practice.

“I was limited today, but as I said, it is my ankle, but it’s just being very, very cautious,” Prescott said. “Switching shoes today probably wasn’t the best idea. There we go. We’re good to go. Promise that I promise you I’m great.”

However, it appears that the issue was a bit more serious than Prescott let on, as Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported.

[There was] a scare there on Thursday because [at] the start of practice it felt like something popped down there in his foot. They took him off to X-ray him. While he was gone, oh yeah, there was a lot of people in there holding their breath.

That said, the concern about Prescott’s foot was short-lived, as X-rays on his injury were negative.

“It seemed like he just popped some scar tissue,” Glazer explained. “They brought him out yesterday. “They ran him fully. He is fully good to go.”

Prescott’s foot injury will still be something for Cowboys fans to monitor, especially if the problem is in his right foot. He suffered a severe injury — a right ankle fracture and dislocation — during the 2020 NFL season.

Still, Prescott doesn’t believe his appearance on the injury report will be a long-term problem — or even a short-term one.

“I feel great. I still feel the best that I’ve felt in a very, very long time,” Prescott said Thursday. “Not even comparable to where I was last year going into this game. So, honestly just excited and ready for Sunday to get here.”
