Duke vs. Kansas live score, updates, highlights from 2022 Champions Classic basketball game

The second game of the Champions Classic will feature two of the Final Four teams from the 2022 March Madness — and a massive debut.

No. 7 Duke’s matchup vs. No. 6 Kansas isn’t just one of the biggest early games of the year: It also marks the first game for Jon Scheyer, who has the unenviable task of replacing Mike Krzyzewski, arguably the greatest coach in men’s college basketball history.

But Krzyzewski chose Scheyer as his successor for a reason, and the latter takes over a practically self-sustaining program. In terms of experience, however, he falls well short of the coach opposite him in Bill Self, coming off his second NCAA Tournament championship. That said, the Jayhawks coach has been suspended to start the season due to allegations of recruiting violations.

Either way, the meeting between Duke and Kansas will be a bona fide battle of blue bloods. And the Sporting News is tracking everything from the 2022 Champions Classic:

11:13 p.m.: Kansas can’t get a last-second bucket, and the Jayhawks take a 33-29 lead into halftie.

11:11 p.m.: Roach’s drive to the basket nets no points, but he does head to the foul line. He hits both to make the score 33-29 Kansas.

11:10 p.m.: Jon Scheyer takes a timeout with 23.3 seconds left. There’s 12 seconds left on the shot clock.

11:08 p.m.: Wilson and Roach trade a pair of missed 3s, the latter stuck in the rim.

11:07 p.m.: Heads-up play by Filipowski to get a steal on Duke’s side of the court, then dish it to Blakes for an easy bucket. Kansas leads 31-27.

11:06 p.m.: Stop me if you’ve heard this: offensive foul by Duke, this one on Filipowski. Meanwhile, Kansas scores on consecutive possessions to lengthen the lead back to 31-25.

11:04 p.m.: Roach gets it, and now Duke is only down two points.

11:01 p.m.: And now Duke’s on a run! Dereck Lively II and Roach score on consecutive possessions to get the Blue Devils to within three points. Roach will get an and-1 attempt out of the TV timeout.

10:59 p.m.: Kansas’ Dajuan Harris Jr. and Ernest Udeh Jr. gets consecutive blocks on the same Duke possession in a highlight-reel play. Kansas misses the alley-oop on the other end, though.

10:58 p.m.: There’s another offensive foul by Duke, the fifth of the night. That also gives the Blue Devils nine turnovers.

10:57 p.m.: Filipowski and Dick trade 3s for Duke and Kansas, respectively; Jayhawks still lead 27-20.

10:56 p.m.: Nice defensive play by Kansas to steal the ball from Filipowski and then move the ball upcourt for a fast-break basket.

10:54 p.m.: Proctor has Duke’s third offensive foul in four possessions.

10:49 p.m.: Mark Mitchell is called for Duke’s second straight offensive foul, but Kansas turns it over on the other end. Kyle Filipowski gets a tough, unorthodox bucket in the paint on the other end to make it 19-13.

10:40 p.m.: Tyrese Proctor is called for flopping on a 3-point attempt, which starting in 2022-23 is a Class B technical foul. So Kansas will get a foul shot on the other end coming out of the timeout.

10:38 p.m.: Roach gets Dukes first bucket to break the 12-0 run. Jayhawks still lead 17-8.

10:35 p.m.: Duke misses on its fifth possession; Blue Devils are struggling shooting early, going 3 of 11 before the second TV timeout. Kansas’ lead is 17-6 following a 12-0 run.

10:30 p.m.: McCullar gets another corner 3 and Kansas’ lead has ballooned to 12-6 at the first TV timeout.

10:26 p.m.: And there’s Kevin McCullar Jr. to get Kansas on the board with a corner 3. The Texas Tech transfer makes it 4-3 Duke.

10:26 p.m.: Captain Jeremy Roach gets a tough basket in the paint to put Duke up 2-0.
