Everything old is new again, including flip phones. But the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is not your parents’ Nokia.

When closed, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 measures 3.34 by 2.83 by 0.67 inches (HWD), with a flat hinge design for easy pocketability. Open it fully to reveal the 6.7-inch-tall, 120Hz OLED panel with a 2,640-by-1,080-pixel resolution.

The other main draw of the Flip 4 is its 1.9-inch, 512-by-250-pixel front display, which encourages users to open the phone less often by providing instant access to message replies, the calendar widget, and Samsung Wallet. Double-tap the power button to use the front screen as a viewfinder when taking selfies in Flex mode (with the phone folded into an L-shape).
It comes in four colors—blue, purple, black, pink gold—with Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back covers and a long-lasting 3,700mAh battery. The IPX8 rating means it’s fully water-resistant, but not dustproof.
Unlike the classic flip phones of the aughts, this model isn’t designed to open and close one-handed; it’s best to unfurl by holding the bottom half in one hand and pulling the top with your other hand.
The Flip 4 runs Android 12 on top of the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, and comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of non-expandable storage. There’s also a 12-megapixel main camera and 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, as well as a 10-megapixel front shooter.
