It can feel like an impossible task sometimes to keep your hair healthy, but how often do you really need to be washing it to keep it looking its best? According to experts, depending on your hair type, frequently washing it can actually do much more harm than good. So whilst you’re scrubbing away in the shower, you could be drying your scalp out, rather than making it feel its best.
So if you’re looking to restore your locks to make them luscious again, the answer could be as simple as switching up your washing routine. Discovering what works best for your hair takes a lot of time and patience and if you’re unsure of where to start, it can be easy to fall into bad habits.

Saul Meskin, hair maintenance expert at Foxy Locks told Express.co.uk : “Your hair is connected to your scalp by a follicle and this follicle is connected to glands that produce vitamins and moisture, which gets passed into the hair.
“If you wash your hair too often, you’ll wash out all the natural oils in your hair that the glands are producing, meaning they will no longer be passing on any goodness to your hair, leaving it lifeless and dry.”
If you run your hands through your hair and it feels soft and bouncy, it’s likely you don’t need to wash it – regardless of the amount of time that has elapsed since your last wash.
If you make gradual changes to your hair routine then it will look softer and fresher in no time – there’s no need to change it quickly, but making small changes will improve your hair game.
Hair expert Simone Thomas at Simone Thomas Wellness told the publication: “If you are self-conscious about your hair in between washes, there are some great dry shampoos out there which will absorb excess oil from your scalp and will add volume to your hair if it’s looking and feeling lank and greasy.”
