Buying your first home can be one of the most stressful yet rewarding periods in your life, as the endless paperwork and packing is usually all worth it when you’re finally handed the keys and step foot through the door to your new abode. Unfortunately, things aren’t always plain sailing, as the previous owners sometimes cause havoc by being particularly difficult and demanding on move-in day, or leave unwanted items behind for the new owners to deal with.

One couple were left aghast by the state their new home was left in when they arrived, as they found a lot of mess, dirt and some rather bizarre items sprawled across the rooms.

Taking to TikTok to make light of the situation, Ali, who posts under the social media handle @ aliciam.ia, made a video mocking all of the strange findings they came across in their new home, and bashed the previous tenant for the sheer mess that they left behind.

The video begins with a photo of Ali and her girlfriend, with the ironic text “cute things our previous owner left in the house with us” showing across the front.

The clip then runs through a list of all the weird and wonderful items in the house, which include a sink brimming with dirty dishes, a bed stacked with the previous owners’ ‘entire wardrobe’ of clothes and a huge trampoline in the garden, which Ali calls a ‘death trap’.

The shocking video also shows what appears to be used underwear sprawled on the floor and a ‘toilet complete with a turd’.

If things couldn’t get any stranger, Ali was also met with a gigantic mural of a family photo one of the bedroom walls.

The blown-up image of what appears to be the previous owners’ family spans the whole wall, and people are finding it hilarious in the comments on the video.

Ali expanded on the strange saga in the comments on her post, saying: “Would just like to say we bought the house from a LIVE man who has had weeks to pack and move and this was AFTER we completed :)”.

The viral video, which has more than 80,000 likes on the platform, has left people in stitches over the strange contents. Others are seething for the couple as they are left with the previous owners’ mess and belongings.

One person wrote: “No wayy! id be on the phone immediately to the estate agents/solicitor”.

While others jokingly admired the weird mural, with one saying “keep the mural. make it a comical shrine to confuse new guests”.

Some TikTok users shared their advice for the couple, as one suggested: “Just an FYI – usually a house is bought with vacant possession (which means empty) so you could have charged him for the removal of all that stuff”.

While others shared their similar disasters with previous owners, as one person said: “Mine left 6 sticks of butter in the fridge and then text me asking for them back 4 days after I got the keys off him”.
