A woman online has voiced her rage after her neighbours of over nine years have the ‘audacity’ to put lights up in their very own garden – as it’s causing her a lack of sleep

Sometimes neighbours can be the greatest banes of our existence, especially if we’re trying to have a decent night’s sleep and someone may be having a bit too much fun. When you initially think of lack of sleep from a neighbour’s antics, it usually stems from obnoxiously loud noises.
Taking a new turn on neighbours from hell, a woman has voiced her rage for her neighbours who are keeping her up at night, but it’s not for the reason you might think. Her utter shock stems from how her neighbours – who have lived next door for nine years – have decided to put up garden lights.

Sharing her rage online in a Mumsnet forum, the user questioned whether she was being unreasonable to expect her neighbours not to have lights in their very own garden.
After “purposely living in a dark place”, she thought the ordeal with her neighbours was completely unnecessary.
“I live down a dark lane, away from street lighting and next to an unlit woody park,” she explained. “I have become really sensitive to light at night and cannot sleep with even a tiny bit of light in the room.
“I also cannot wear eye masks as they cause pressure on my face (yes I know I sound fussy but I have sensory issues).
“My neighbour of the last nine years has suddenly decided to illuminate his garden at night.
“I’m not sure why because the position of his house means that he cannot see the lights unless he is sitting in his conservatory, which he rarely does.
“His garden runs across the front of my house and we share a fence but his house is set off to the right.”

The woman was initially confused as the lighting can only be seen by her – and therefore thinks the whole ordeal is strange.
She said: “I feel like the lights make us much more visible if someone wanted to nose around at night.
“I know it’s not Blackpool illuminations, but it is enough to change things significantly for me,” she added.
“We used to get on ok but he is quite ill and has become increasingly grumpy about my kids, so I am reluctant to ask him to turn them off.
“But I’m already struggling (hence writing this at 11pm) and know I must tackle this, but am I being unreasonable?”
Viewers rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts on the ordeal with several encouraging ways to progress the situation – with others claiming that she’s unreasonable.
“Get blackout curtains?” One user suggested.
“I have really thick drapes and unfortunately our house only has windows at the front,” the woman clarified.
Another wrote: “I think you’re being totally unreasonable, this is a you problem he can do what he wants in his garden.”
A third added: “You cannot dictate what ornaments etc he has in his own garden. You need to invest in black-out blinds and curtains.”
