Elbows, out?
In the closing seconds of the Bills’ loss on Sunday, quarterback Josh Allen had a chance to forge a miraculous comeback — instead, the quarterback was dealt a tough injury blow.
After a strip sack bent Allen’s arm backwards, the quarterback was seen clutching at his right arm, and he would dirt the next pass he threw before uncorking a 70-yard prayer on his last attempt of the game.
While that throw was indicative that maybe nothing was really wrong, in the days that followed, it was revealed that Allen was dealing with an elbow injury of unknown severity. Now, there’s a little more clarity on the injury, but not as much on when he may be on the field again.

Here’s the latest on the Bills’ quarterback’s injury:
Josh Allen injury update
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Allen is dealing with an elbow sprain, specifically, a UCL sprain, that casts his Week 10 status in doubt.
Rapoport reports that the issue with Allen’s elbow is less about pain tolerance and more about being able to grip the ball. The team should know more about Allen’s injury as the week of practice progresses.
From @GMFB: #Bills QB Josh Allen is dealing with a sprained right elbow, sources say, a UCL injury that will limit him this week. While it’s no sure thing that Allen plays vs the #Vikings, belief is it’s an injury he can manage moving forward. How he responds this week is key. pic.twitter.com/86HQb0Kdzz

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott didn’t shed much light on the situation in his regular Wednesday news conference, saying only that Allen is “day-to-day” and “we’ll see” if he’s able to play Sunday.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Allen has “expressed confidence” to teammates that he’ll be able to play, “but that’s what I’d expect him to say.”
Word is Josh Allen has expressed confidence to teammates he’ll be able to play Sunday vs. the #Vikings but that’s what I’d expect him to say. We’ll see as Sunday draws closer for the #Bills’ franchise QB. https://t.co/S6iazc4u1x

Allen had a similar issue during his rookie season and missed four games while rehabbing. He’s expected to play through the injury, as long as his upcoming week of practice goes smoothly.
The Bills face the 7-1 Vikings in Buffalo in Week 10, and still sit atop the AFC East.
The UCL is a tendon in the elbow that’s usually mostly associated with MLB pitchers; a total tear of the UCL typically results in Tommy John, while sprains and partial tears usually require rest and rehab.
