Man insists we’re all opening our advent calendars wrong – but not everyone’s convinced

A man has claimed we’ve all been opening our advent calenders the wrong way, but not everyone is convinced, as some say there’s a reason we open them the way we do

With December now in full swing, the countdown to Christmas has officially begun, and for many of us, that means quite literally counting down the days with the help of an advent calendar.

But according to one man, we’ve actually been tucking into our daily chocolate treat the wrong way our “whole lives” – as he believes we’ve all been doing it backwards.

The man shared a video online in which he explained that advent calendars should count down the days until Christmas, meaning that instead of tucking into the treat behind door number one on December 1st, we should actually be opening up door 24, as it’s 24 days until Christmas.

In the video, posted to the man’s @supernoodle2 account on TikTok, he said: “Advent calendars count down to Christmas, not up. You have been doing it wrong your whole life.”

The man’s controversial take on the advent calendar has left people online baffled though, as not everyone is convinced about his methods.

Many people in the comments pointed out that although advent calendars are supposed to help you count down to Christmas, they also follow the days of the month, so that door number one is opened on the 1st, number two on the 2nd, and so on.

And others also noted that many advent calendars come with a larger piece of chocolate on the final day, which you would end up scoffing on the first day if you employed the man’s way of thinking.

One person said: “No, all wrong. It’s an advent calendar not an advent countdown. Big choccy is for Christmas Eve.”

While another added: “It means the day of the month, not how many days until Christmas.”

And a third wrote: “So then why is the best thing on the 24th?”

Some other commenters stated that on some advent calendars, the back of the door will tell you how many sleeps you have left until Christmas and said that behind door number one, it says “24 sleeps” – meaning you’re supposed to start with number one and not 24.
