Erik ten Hag will get his first taste of the Manchester derby with Premier League champions Manchester City aiming for a third consecutive win over their neighbours Manchester United.
Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez each scored twice as City romped to a 4-1 win in the corresponding fixture at the Etihad Stadium in March, although Erling Haaland will be expected to provide the hosts’ weekend goal threat after plundering 14 goals in 10 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.
If United can claim the derby bragging rights, they will close to within two points of City. Ten Hag’s men have recovered impressively from their inauspicious start to the season, winning four Premier League games in succession following back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford.
However, the last of those came 3-1 at the expense of leaders Arsenal almost a month ago, with scheduled encounters against Crystal Palace and Leeds United postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Man City vs. Man United predicted lineups
John Stones suffered a hamstring injury playing for England against Germany on Monday and is expected to miss out. Aymeric Laporte is closing in on a return following knee surgery but expect Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji to continue at the heart of the City defence.
Jack Grealish scored his first goal of the season and impressed during City’s previous 3-0 win at Wolves. He was suspended for England’s most recent game so at least returns to club duty reasonably fresh.
Man City projected lineup (4-3-3): Ederson (GK) — Walker, Akanji, Dias, Cancelo — De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva — Foden, Haaland, Grealish.
Marcus Rashford netted twice in the Arsenal win before being withdrawn due to a hamstring injury. However, the England forward is back in training and, if he is available to start, that probably means only a place on the bench for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo will likely be joined among the substitutes by Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire after the defensive duo experienced contrasting outings at Wembley with England
Man United projected lineup (4-2-3-1): De Gea (GK) — Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia — McTominay, Eriksen — Antony, Fernandes, Sancho — Rashford.
Man City vs. Man United betting odds
City’s prolific form since Haaland’s arrival understandably makes them clear favourites with the bookmakers. In all competitions at the Etihad Stadium this term, the Blues have won four out of four and scored 16 times.
However, before the trials of last season, United boasted a handy recent record in this fixture. Across the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, the Red Devils won three and drew one of the four league meetings, conceding once.
