MOUNT EDEN, The Bronx (WABC) — A harrowing event transpired at a bustling subway station in the Bronx, resulting in a tragic shooting that claimed one life and left five individuals injured. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident that unfolded on the northbound platform for the No. 4 train at the Mount Eden train station around 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
The victims, whose ages span from 14 to 71, were awaiting the train when the confrontation erupted. Sadly, a 34-year-old man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at St Barnabas Hospital.
The injuries sustained by the remaining five victims, a 14-year-old girl, 15-year-old boy, 28-year-old man, 29-year-old woman, and 71-year-old man, are currently reported as non-life-threatening.
During a press briefing on Tuesday evening, NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper emphasized that the incident was not a random act of violence. The altercation involved two groups of teenagers engaged in a dispute while riding a northbound No. 4 train.
According to authorities, as the train arrived at the station, the doors opened, and at least one individual brandished a firearm, firing shots. While some of the victims are believed to be connected to the initial dispute, it remains unclear which ones were directly involved.

Investigators are exploring the possibility of the 34-year-old victim being associated with the dispute or whether he was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire.
Chief Kemper expressed his dismay, stating, “This is unacceptable,” and emphasized the need for swift, immediate, and strong consequences when detectives make an arrest.
The NYPD is actively pursuing at least one suspect in connection to this distressing incident, intensifying efforts to bring them to justice. The community remains on edge as authorities work diligently to apprehend those responsible for the tragedy.
