Mum mocked for stealing sister’s baby name that ‘sounds like a stripper’ title

The woman’s sister asked her not to use this name as she had her eyes on it first, but the mum went ahead anyway – some people have mocked the moniker for sounding ‘like a stripper name’ and slammed her for using it

When you’re expecting a child, choosing your baby ‘s name is one of the biggest decisions to make. The pressure is heightened as your child will have that name forever, and many parents hope to find something special and original that suits their little one without going too rouge and choosing a strange name that could result in kids teasing them.

One woman had her heart set on a name that her sister had asked her not to use, as she was planning on using it for her own daughter. When the sister had a baby boy instead, the woman insisted she was keen on using the name – which didn’t go down well with her sibling.

After the woman took to Reddit to reveal the full name she wants to use, some people have claimed that it sounds like a ‘stripper name’ while slamming her for not respecting her sister’s wishes.

Asking for advice on whether it was unfair for her to use the moniker, the mum wrote: “My big sister and I are both having babies 4 months apart. She picked family names Paul for a Boy and Rose for girl’s name before I knew I was pregnant.

“She had a boy, when I found out I was having a girl she asked me not to use the name Rose. I am now due in 3 weeks. My husband and I have decided on Rylee for our daughter’s name. We wanted to use a family name for the middle name, and we have very limited family names that will go with Rylee.

Things all sounded fair and square with the mum’s reasoning, until she explained the full name she’s chosen: “My husband has fallen in love with Rylee Rose and I would like to use Rylee Elizabeth. My husband does not ask for much and he really wants to use Rose.

“I tired to talk to my sister and ask if we used the name for a middle name instead of first name if that would be ok. She again said no and asked if I would not use it. She said if her second child was a boy then she would give up on the name, but she wanted to save it for her second child if it was a girl”.

Despite her sister’s upset over the name choice, the mum is keen to go ahead, and thinks it shouldn’t be a major issue, as she reiterated: “My sister had a boy and I am using it as a middle name not a first name and my sister can still use it as a first name later on if she has a girl”.

Many people were unsympathetic to the mum’s dilemma in the comments, as they suggested that she should honour the sister’s wishes and choose a different name.

Others went as far to slate the name itself and argued it wasn’t even worth fighting over, as one bold person wrote: “I think Rylee Rose sounds like a stripper name. Of all the names in the world, your husband just happens to love the one your sister had chosen?

“While no one owns a name, I think you will be TA [the a******] if you use the name”.

Another person also criticised the mum for going ahead with the name, saying: “Yeah I don’t love the name truthfully, but even if I did. I would pick something else. I have one sister and if she claimed a name I would pick another.

“If my husband had issue, I would explain that my relationship with my sister is more important than needing the middle name. Can Op use the name? Yes, but it seems like unnecessary conflict creation. There are millions of names out there….”.

A third Reddit commenter added: “And this is why you NEVER tell anyone names before the baby is born and the name is on the birth certificate”.
