A woman has been left baffled after her boyfriend demanded she pay him a percentage of her pay rise – as he claims he helped her get it by ‘predicting’ it in a dream

Getting recognised for your hard work with a pay rise or promotion is always a good feeling, and it’s usually a moment in which you can feel proud of yourself for your dedication to what you do. But one woman has been left feeling furious after her boyfriend tried to take credit for her recent raise – as he claimed he “predicted” the outcome in a dream.
The woman said her partner claims to have a “supernatural ability” to dream about events before they happen, but she is sceptical because the things he predicts are often outcomes that “aren’t surprising”. So when she received a pay rise after working her job for over six years, she wasn’t blown away when her boyfriend said he’d seen it coming.

What did take her by surprise was when her boyfriend told her to “set aside” some of her newly acquired income for him, as he believed he was owed some cash for “helping” her get her raise by predicting it – even though he never actually told her about his premonition before it happened.
In a post on Reddit, she said: “I have been with my boyfriend for 7 years. He has what he calls ‘supernatural ability’ and that is to ‘dream’ about things and/or events before they take place. In other words, he claims to ‘predict’ the future.
“He once talked about seeing me getting a new car in his dream and 2 months later I bought a new car that I was saving for. Another example, he told me about seeing a new friend coming into my life in his dream. Turns out he was talking about the dog I adopted in July. Basically, events that weren’t so surprising.
“Now, I’ve got a raise at work of around 40% after working my a** off for 6+ years with this company. I was happy because now I get to renovate parts of the house like I always wanted, and when I told my boyfriend, he told me to ‘set aside’ a percentage of the money for him.
“I was so confused I asked why and he said it was because he already dreamed about me getting a raise and predicted this event before it happened. I said I don’t recall him ever telling me. He got upset and said that the reason he didn’t tell me was because of how I kept making fun of his ‘abilities’, and that I could go ask his friends and they’ll confirm that he did in fact see this coming.
“I said I was sorry but this seemed illogical and unreasonable of him. I refused to give him any money and he flipped out and called me ungrateful and claimed that I was ‘turning my back’ on the people who helped me in a way to get this raise. I kinda laughed at the absurdity of this but he got even more offended and said that I can’t blame him for not telling me after I kept mocking him like that.”
The woman insisted she wouldn’t be giving her boyfriend any money for his “prediction”, but she’s now been called “out of line” by her partner’s friends who believe she is taking his “ability” for granted.
She added: “I refused and said that no way in hell was I going to give him any percentage, and would rather save the extra money for renovation work around the house. We had an argument and he left to be with his friends who later got involved and said that the way I treat my boyfriend and his ‘incredible prediction ability’ was appalling and out of line. They said that he wasn’t asking for much and I should consider it.”
Commenters on the post were baffled by the boyfriend’s request, as many told the woman it sounded as though he was trying to “scam” her with his claims.
One person said: “The way that he talks to you is atrocious. You do not deserve that disrespect.”
While another added: “I think your boyfriend wants to scam you with his ‘supernatural powers’ you should ask him to predict the date you are going to leave him. But you really should reconsider being in a relationship with a crazy guy who wants to get free money from you.”
And a third posted: “So, if he can predict the future, then your raise was predestined. He gets no credit at all. It was going to happen with or without him. I predict the sun will rise tomorrow – send your cheques to me personally.”
