A woman has taken to Reddit to share how her husband lied to her about his age to get her to marry him and have his children – she has been encouraged to ‘sprint away from him’

A woman has been left feeling sick after being duped into agreeing to marry a man 17 years older than her. The 29-year-old explained how she met her fiancé in 2020 – but only just found out the truth about him.

When they first met, he claimed to be 35-years-old and while he looked a lot older, she chose to trust him. She told Reddit : “I always felt that he looked older for his ‘fake’ age but I couldn’t lay my hands on any proof. I was so sceptical about him because he never let me see any of his personal documents.”

It wasn’t long into dating when he started to put “pressure” on their relationship, wanting to take it to the next level.

“He was so much in a hurry to settle down with me but I kept on turning down his proposals because I wasn’t so sure about marrying him yet,” she added.

“He introduced me to his family and kept on putting pressure on me to accept his proposal so that we can start a family as soon as possible.

“The pressure from him and his family kept on increasing until I finally accepted his proposal this 2022.”

Shortly after their engagement, the couple booked a hospital appointment for a premarital screening – and this is when she finally learned the truth about his age.

She said: “We were both given a form each to fill in our personal information.

“I was sitting beside him proofreading the form when he walked up to the man in charge and asked him to fill his in, claiming that he couldn’t see well and that he needs reading glasses.

“I was surprised because I’ve never known him to be someone with visual impairment.

“The man asked him for his date of birth and I overheard him saying 1976, which means he is 46-years-old instead of the 35 he once told me.

“I understand why each time I asked him about his birthday, he usually said he has forgotten and that he was going to check and get back to me.

“This man has showed me so much love since the day I met him but right now, I feel like he was just faking it to make me marry him and start making babies.

“I feel so hurt. I want to break up with him.”

While most users encouraged her to “get out while she still can”, others questioned why she accepted his proposal in the first place.

One user said: “You ask him what his birthday is multiple times, but he says he forgot it? And you believed that?

“You turn down his proposals, but he continues asking and pressures you into it.

“I feel like that’s a huge red flag and a lack of respect. Everything about this, to me at least, screams RUN.”

Another user added: “That’s diabolical. Looks like the premarital screening did it’s job before the tests even happened.

“Sprint away from this one. All that love and affection will disappear once he achieves the goal of getting a baby out of you.”

A third user said: “This guy is on his very best behaviour until he gets a ring on your finger and a baby in your uterus.

“I’d be willing to bet a thorough background check would reveal a lot of surprises. RUN.”
