‘My wife is fuming over my £12 coffee – I told her to get a job if she has an issue’

His wife is currently out of work and not able to do a lot around the house due to a health condition, but this husband snapped when the wife mocked his coffee habits

A man has received a huge backlash from his wife after he claimed that as the only one with a job, he should get to decide what expensive items to buy. The husband took to Reddit to explain that he likes to brew his own coffee at home, instead of buying one from a shop before work, but this has caused a rift with his wife.

He said: “I brew it at home, so we’re not talking daily £7 drinks or anything.

“Instead of getting a giant bulk bag of coffee, I’ve come to enjoy a £12 bag from the grocery store. It lasts a bit over a week, maybe two. Instead of 15 for about five weeks.”

The man went on to explain that he and his wife work from home and he has had to do a lot around the house as she is currently not working due to a medical condition.

“I try my best to do what I can, but often times I have to ask her multiple times to help with even simple tasks to share responsibility,” he said.

“We’ve had discussions on how I know she’s working on the issue, but I can’t do everything on my own.”

However, the pair have come to a head recently over the expensive coffee purchases.

The husband claims to make a steady living so feels he should be able to get whichever coffee he wants with no backlash.

But, his wife has started to make comments about the coffee.

“She’d previously commented on the cost, and I said ‘It’s well within the budget, and I like it. It’s fine’,” he explained.

“I brought home another bag the other day, and she made a comment along the lines of ‘You’re spending way too much on this fancy coffee. You need to go back to the other stuff.'”

On hearing this, the man confronted her about this and said: “Having had to make the grocery run again, after doing other household chores that morning, I snapped ‘The one with the job gets to make the grocery choices. Work again or contribute to the household and you can have a say in what we buy’.”

In response, his wife left the room upset with his comments.

Many have been quick to react to the post with one writing: “Cost of coffee isn’t a lot, everyone has a right to spurge a little if they can afford it, op has a lot of pressure having to hold up the household so they should get extra slack.”

While another said: “Something has to give here. I hate to see one side drowning no matter how hard they work and try.”
