Packers vs. Bills final score, results: Josh Allen, Buffalo cruise to victory over Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay

It certainly wasn’t perfect, but Josh Allen and the Bills got the job done, holding off the Packers and earning a win in front of their home fans on “Sunday Night Football.”

Allen looked stellar once again early on, putting together an offensive surge in the second quarter to establish a comfortable 24-7 halftime lead. Despite a very sloppy second half in which Allen threw two bad interceptions, that cushion proved to be more than enough to get Buffalo to the finish line.

MORE: What’s wrong with Rodgers, Packers’ offense?

The Packers continued to work through the offensive issues that have plagued them throughout the season, shifting to a run-oriented attack for most of the second half. It worked at times, with Aaron Jones racking up an impressive 143 rushing yards, but they never really threatened to pull off the comeback.

The win moves the Bills to 6-1, and they remain on top of the AFC standings. For the Packers, it was their 4th straight loss, dropping them to 3-5 on the season. They now sit well behind the Vikings (6-1) for first place in the NFC North.

Packers vs. Bills live updates, highlights from ‘Sunday Night Football’

(All times Eastern)

11:26 p.m. FINAL — The kick is NO GOOD from 55 yards and that’ll do it. The Bills are going to came away with a deserved win. They didn’t look like themselves in the second half, but their offensive flurry in the second quarter was enough to secure the victory.

11:24 p.m. — Three straight incompletions bring up 4th and 10, and LaFleur is forced to try a long field goal. If Crosby makes it, they’ll still have to recover the onside kick to have any chance.

11:21 p.m. — The Packers continue to drive down the field, but they’re fighting an uphill battle. They need at least a field goal, an onside kick recovery and a touchdown to tie this up, and with less than a minute on the clock it’s not looking likely.

11:19 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — The Packers start the drive from their own 17-yard line. After a Tonyan catch picks up 9 yards, Doubs makes another grab to pick up 10 more. We’ve arrived at the two-minute warning.

11:15 p.m. — On 3rd and 7, Green Bay finally gets the stop it needed. Allen rolled right and overthrew Jake Kumerow, but there was a flag for ineligible receiver downfield anyways. The Bills will punt, and Rodgers will get the ball back with about two and a half minutes left.

11:12 p.m. — Singletary almost just broke free for a touchdown, but he got tripped up by his shoelaces with nothing but daylight ahead of him. One play later, a silly unnecessary roughness penalty on Davis stops the clock and moves the Bills back 15 yards. He bumped into Jaire Alexander after the play was already over. Alexander has been jawing with the Buffalo receivers all night.

11:06 p.m. — Diggs makes a nice move to break a tackle pick up a first down, then Gabe Davis picks up a few more on 1st down. After a short run, Buffalo faces 3rd and very short. Allen plows forward on a QB sneak to keep the drive alive.

Bills 27, Packers 17

11:00 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — There’s the lifeline Green Bay was looking for! Rodgers dances around in the pocket, then fires it deep into the end zone to a wide open Samori Toure! That’s the rookie’s first ever NFL touchdown. With about six and a half minutes left, this game isn’t over just yet…

10:56 p.m. — After a completion to Tonyan gains 15 yards, Doubs makes another fantastic catch down the left sideline to move into Bills’ territory. He’s got three catches for 52 yards on the night.

10:52 p.m. INTERCEPTION — Wow, that’s another really uncharacteristic error by Allen. On 3rd and goal, he escapes pressure and scans the field for anybody open. He fires a pass intended for Gabe Davis, but Jaire Alexander makes a diving interception to force a third turnover in three possessions! This has turned into quite a sloppy second half.

10:48 p.m. — James Cook makes a catch and runs it all the way down inside the Packers’ 10-yard line for a gain of 41 yards. A touchdown here will more than likely secure a win for Buffalo.

10:46 p.m. INTERCEPTION — And the Bills get it right back! On the very first play of the drive, Rodgers’ pass gets tipped at the line of scrimmage before Matt Milano dives to make the pick! Big wasted opportunity there for the Packers.

10:43 p.m. INTERCEPTION — Allen makes his first mistake of the night. In another 3rd and 10 situation, he steps up and throws over the middle for Gabe Davis, but Rasul Douglas jumps the route to force the turnover! He laterals to Jaire Alexander for some reason, which achieves nothing. But in any case it’s now Packers ball near midfield. Quick points are a must for Green Bay here.

10:38 p.m. — Buffalo faces a quick 3rd and 10. Allen drops back and throws over the middle for Diggs, but it falls incomplete. However, Rasul Douglas gets called for illegal use of hands to keep the drive alive. That was… a soft call. The Bills will be hoping to keep bleeding that clock.

10:33 p.m. TURNOVER ON DOWNS — Jones picks up 6 yards to set up 4th and short. A field goal would cut the lead to two possessions, but LaFleur decides to go for it. Jones takes the handoff yet again, but he gets swarmed in the backfield and the Bills will take over! A risky choice doesn’t pay off for the Packers.

End of third quarter: Bills 27, Packers 10

10:28 p.m. — Green Bay embarks on a methodical drive, with Jones and Dillon making up the entire offense at the moment. They keep picking up chunks, and they’ve moved the ball into Buffalo territory. The quarter comes to an end with the Packers facing 3rd and 7.

10:26 p.m. — LaFleur has really been hammering the run game since the second quarter. Jones continues to pick up yardage, and Dillon has returned to the game to complement him. That’s good news for Packers fans.

Bills 27, Packers 10

10:22 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Bass’ kick is good from 38 yards. The Bills extend their lead back to three possessions.

10:20 p.m. — Allen scampers for 10 yards and another first down. But after a holding penalty on Dion Dawkins, Buffalo’s drive stalls out and Allen can’t quite make the line to gain on another 3rd down scramble. Bass will come on for another field goal try.

10:14 p.m. — On 2nd and 10, Allen pump fakes then completes it to Gabe Davis over the middle, who breaks a tackle and finally gets dragged down at the Green Bay 35-yard line. That’s a big gain of 30 yards.

Bills 24, Packers 10

10:10 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Crosby’s kick is a bit of a knuckleball, but it sneaks inside the right upright to cut the Bills’ lead to 14.

10:08 p.m. — A Robert Tonyan touchdown catch gets wiped off the board after the officials called offensive pass interference on the big tight end. That sets up 3rd and 13, and after an incompletion Mason Crosby will come in to attempt the field goal.

10:06 p.m. — Dillon then rumbles for a big gain of 27 yards. He landed awkwardly when he was tackled and he’s now leaving the game. That’s another unfortunate injury for Green Bay just as they are finally starting to get their running game going.

10:04 p.m. — Jones breaks loose for a big gain of 32 yards to kickstart the drive, then follows it up with another good chunk of yardage to move into Bills territory.

10:00 p.m. START OF SECOND HALF — Bass kicks it deep, with the Packers getting the ball first this half. A good return by Keisean Nixon was negated by a holding penalty.

9:52 p.m. — Last Sunday, Rodgers said heading to Buffalo this week with “a chance to get exposed” might actually be the best thing for the Packers. Those comments have not aged particularly well so far…

End of first half: Bills 24, Packers 7

9:44 p.m. FIELD GOAL — With time ticking down, Allen takes two shots to the end zone but both fall incomplete. Tyler Bass comes out to kick the field goal, and he knocks it through from 42 yards out to end the half.

9:40 p.m. — HUGE play to start the Bills’ drive! Allen launches an absolute rocket downfield for Diggs, who inevitably makes the grab for a gain of 53 yards! The connection between these two is deadly. Bills ball on the Green Bay 27 yard line.

9:38 p.m. — Gregory Rousseau sacks Rodgers on 2nd down to set up 3rd and 16. Then, strangely, the Packers opt to just hand it off to Jones and he gets wrapped up well short of a first down. Really an odd play call considering the situation. The Bills will get the ball back with a chance to score again and stretch their lead even further.

9:34 p.m. — Rodgers trots out to run a two-minute drill. Jones makes a catch for 11 yards and a first down to start the drive, but on the next play a pass deep over the middle gets tipped and nearly intercepted.

9:30 p.m. — Here’s a fun fact: Diggs’ touchdown catch earlier tonight was his most improbable reception this season according to Next Gen Stats. The chances of him catching it were just 22.5%.

Bills 21, Packers 7

9:27 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — That was far too easy. McKenzie takes the handoff on an end around and speeds past a pair of defenders for the score. That’s his second touchdown of the season!

9:26 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — Passes to Diggs and McKenzie move Buffalo into the red zone, then Allen scrambles up the middle and slides down at about the 8-yard line. That’ll take us to the two-minute warning.

9:22 p.m. — Two plays later, Cook gets the handoff again and shimmies forward for 7 more yards. At the end of the play, Green Bay’s Quay Walker seemed to shove a coach on the Bills sideline. That results in a 15-yard penalty and Walker has also been ejected from the game. Not what the Packers needed.

9:19 p.m. — Buffalo looks to respond, and a 17-yard run by rookie James Cook (younger brother of Minnesota’s Dalvin Cook) gets the drive off to a nice start.

Bills 14, Packers 7

9:14 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — WOW. WHAT A CATCH. Rodgers tossed it into the back corner of the end zone to the rookie Romeo Doubs, who was covered well but somehow made an unbelievable play to haul it in! The Packers really needed that, now they’re right back in it.

9:10 p.m. — The Bills thought they had a sack for a big loss, but Dane Jackson gets called for illegal hands to the face to give Green Bay a free 5 yards instead. On the next play, Jones plows forward to about the Buffalo 30-yard line.

9:04 p.m. — The Packers need an answer, and it looks like they’re turning to the running game. They pound the rock on five straight plays to start the drive, alternating between Jones and Dillon. It’s working so far, they’ve picked up a pair of first downs to move into Buffalo territory.

Bills 14, Packers 0

8:58 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — You can’t stop it, you can only hope to contain it! Diggs gets a step on Jarran Reed down the right sideline, and he makes a tumbling catch into the end zone for the touchdown! He got up and was letting Reed hear about it after the play.

End of first quarter: Bills 7, Packers 0

8:55 p.m. — The final play of the quarter is a completion to Stefon Diggs for a gain of about 10. Diggs fumbled the ball towards the end of the play, but he somehow managed to recover it inside a scrum of players.

8:53 p.m. — The Bills start with great field position right at midfield. On 2nd down, Allen throws a fastball to Singletary, who scurries forward for another nice gain of 16 yards. Singletary has looked impressive so far tonight.

8:49 p.m. — Green Bay goes with a flea flicker on the first play of the drive. Dillon pitches back to Rodgers, who heaves it deep for Romeo Doubs but it’s broken up by some good coverage. After a short pass on 2nd down, Rodgers throws to Aaron Jones on 3rd and 7 but the running back is dragged down well short of the sticks. Another punt for the Packers.

8:48 p.m. — Christian Watson has been ruled out with a concussion. Another tough blow for this Packers offense.

Bills 7, Packers 0

8:44 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — The Bills strike first! Allen rolls left and it looks like he might try to run it in, but at the lasts second he flips it into the back corner of the end zone for his tight end Dawson Knox!

8:40 p.m. — Singletary gets smothered for a very short gain on 1st down, then an end around play to Isaiah McKenzie gets blown up and loses about 5 yards. On 3rd and 14, Allen takes off and runs to his left, surging ahead for a huge first down! He took a big hit at the end of that play, but he popped up quickly to exchange some words with the Packers defenders. 1st and goal, Buffalo.

8:38 p.m. — Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott goes back to the running game, and on the third play of the drive Singletary breaks loose for a big gain of 30 yards. The Bills have it in the red zone.

8:35 p.m. TURNOVER ON DOWNS — Watson is able to walk to the sideline under his own power. Facing 4th and 3 from the Bills’ 38-yard line, Matt LaFleur keeps his offense on the field. Rodgers drops back and fires to his left but it hits the turf incomplete. Buffalo’s defense makes an important early stop.

8:31 p.m. — Jones makes a catch for 7 yards and another first down, but Rodgers is sacked a couple of plays later to set up 3rd and 15.

Green Bay then sets up a screen pass to Christian Watson, who gains 11 yards — not quite enough. Unfortunately, Watson was injured on the play. A thin Packers receiving corps might have just gotten even thinner.

8:28 p.m. — Rodgers and the Packers go to work from their own 30-yard line. Aaron Jones gains 6 yards on 2nd down, then on 3rd and 2 Rodgers completes it to the former Bill Sammy Watkins to move the chains.

8:25 p.m. — Buffalo starts the game with a handoff to Devin Singletary, who picks up 6 yards. After an incompletion on 2nd down, Allen goes deep to Gabe Davis on 3rd and 4 but it’s broken up. That’s a three-and-out, and the Bills have to punt for just the 12th time this season.

8:23 p.m. — The Packers won the toss and deferred, and the Bills offense will take the field first tonight.

8:20 p.m. — Josh Allen and his squad are ready.

8:14 p.m. — Highmark Stadium is absolutely rocking tonight. Kickoff is coming up in just a few minutes on “Sunday Night Football.”

8:09 p.m. — Rodgers and Allen share a moment in the tunnel before taking the field. An all-time great and one of the greatest currently in the league.

7:56 p.m. — The Packers enter tonight looking to end a three-game losing streak. It’ll be a tough task, but Aaron Rodgers is a 4-time MVP. If anyone can do it, it’s him.

7:46 p.m. — This Bills fan went to great lengths for Jordan Poyer’s autograph.

7:36 p.m. — Stefon Diggs: A man of many talents.
