People are only just realising how to cut boiled eggs properly and it’s ‘jaw-dropping’

Cutting boiled eggs can be a messy task and can leave what seems like half the eggs yolk on the knife you’re cutting with – but one woman realised how to cut them properly, and she’s as shocked as we are

Cutting boiled eggs can be a nightmare – it’s not as bad as de-shelling them, but getting the yolk to sit perfectly in half, and stay in the egg at the same time can be a tough task. Or, if you’ve got a recipe that requires the white and yolk to be separated, it can be even more fiddly – trying to pop the yolks out sounds easy but is no small feat, and can leave your knife with yolk all over it, creating waste.

TikToker Andrea Van Derwerker, who posts under the username @andrealanev was shocked when she realised there was an easier way to cut boiled eggs, and she captioned her revolutionary video: “I’m just now figuring this out after almost 30 years on this spinning rock?”

In the video, multiple halved eggs can be seen on the surface, and they look perfectly cut. Andrea then says: “Hey, erm, if you guys all knew about cutting hard-boiled eggs like this and you didn’t tell me…we’re going to have some serious beef, okay?”

In the video, she can be seen slicing the egg lightly, and then rolling it towards her so the yolk pops out in a perfect ball, and the whites of the egg are cut into perfect halves.

She then proceeded to pick the ball of yolk up and says: “Look at that, no yolk all over the knife, it’s so clean…are you kidding me!?”

In the comments, people said they were shocked and impressed with the method, saying they were going to make deviled eggs with the hack.

One TikTok user wrote: “My jaw dropped.”

Another commented: “So we are cutting eggs avocado style?! I never knew that was possible lol.”

Someone was baffled, writing: “Omg, WHAT. CALLING MY MOTHER RIGHT NOW”, whilst another joked: “That’s egg-cellent.”
