Soccer predictions, best bets today: Betting tips, expert picks for games on Saturday, October 8

It’s the usual sumptuous Saturday buffet of soccer from around the world, but there are a handful of ideas our crew have singled out for best bets.

All eyes will be on Saturday’s Der Klassiker match between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, but the Premier League action will also be compelling with the defending champions Manchester City in action.

Real Madrid have a short trip, but a tricky one, to visit a Getafe team that is still smarting from a crushing 3-2 home loss to Real Valladolid. If they couldn’t stop Real Valladolid, how are they going to stop one of the hottest scorers in Europe?

Check out all our best bets below.

Man City vs. Southampton

  • Best Bet: Man City win & Both Teams to Score
  • Odds: +138 (Caesars)
  • Prediction (Win/Draw): Man City

Man City have Erling Haaland, and the Southampton defense has been poor. This pick is simply about whether the Saints can also find the back of the net. I think they can.

Between Che Adams from open play, and the presence of James Ward-Prowse on set-pieces, they should find an opening amid the onslaught at the other end.

Man City have been SO attacking this season, they have left themselves open at the back at times. The over 3.5 goals has limited value at -150 (understandably), so back Saints to find a consolation goal instead. — Kyle Bonn

Getafe vs. Real Madrid

  • Best Bet: Vinicius Jr. anytime goalscorer
  • Odds: +130 (Caesars)
  • Prediction (Win/Draw): Real Madrid

Yes, Karim Benzema is back in the Real Madrid lineup. There are still plenty of goals to go around, and Vinicius Jr. is still in blistering form up front, scoring in four of his last five league matches plus again midweek in Champions League play. All Benzema’s return serves to do is give us better odds on Vini finding the back of the net.

In Benzema’s midweek return against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, it was Vinicius who found the back of the net thanks to ripping NINE shots while winning 7/11 dribbles. What did Benzema do? He created seven chances. Vinicius is the one in form, and Carlo Ancelotti loves to prop up his most in-form players. Getafe concedes goals, so there should be plenty of chances. — Kyle Bonn

Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich

  • Best Bet: Under 3.5 goals
  • Odds: -115 (Caesars)
  • Prediction (Win/Draw): Bayern Munich

Der Klassiker has been an explosive show of late, with each of the last six meetings producing at least four goals. There’s reason to believe this time will be different.

Both teams are slammed with injuries. Bayern duo Thomas Muller and Josh Kimmich both have COVID-19, while Kingsley Coman is out with a minor hamstring issue. On the Dortmund end, Marco Reus and Gio Reyna are out, while Thorgan Hazard has only just returned from injury.

Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi have sorely disappointed this season for Dortmund, but the defense has not, vastly improved from last campaign thanks to the addition of ex-Bayern man Niklas Sule. — Kyle Bonn

Yesterday’s picks

Kyle had a beat on Toulouse giving a struggling Lyon team a run for their money, and the promoted side earned a draw at the Groupama Stadium. He was also heading to victory with his Hoffenheim-Werder over 3.5 goals selection with the match tied 1-1 at halftime. But the goals dried up in the second half and Werder only won it late on a penalty.

Simon had to sweat out the Osasuna-Valencia BTTS pick (Both Teams To Score). After Osasuna failed to convert a penalty earlier in the game, they finally managed a goal in the 93rd minute in the 2-1 loss. He didn’t foresee that Delfin goalkeeper Carlos Ortiz would be the Man of the Match, pushing aside all seven shots on target by Liga de Quito in Ecuador. That BTTS did not come in for him.
