Twiglets are a polarising snack – whether you’re the type to crack open a can as soon as the festive period rolls around, or can’t stand the sight of them.
Many Marmite lovers choose the savoury sticks as their treat of choice come Christmas time – but Twiglet fans have been left hugely disappointed after tucking in and realising they taste different.
Upset customers have claimed that the product tastes “nowhere near the same” as before, and have even claimed that the snack now has “no flavour”.
Twiglet lovers might feel vindicated to know that the recipe for their favourite snack has in fact been changed, and their taste buds aren’t deceiving them.

While the company confirmed that a new recipe officially launched in May, customers are only just spotting this change to recipes as the Christmas celebrations approach and tubs are starting to be popped opened.
One disappointed Twiglet lover shared a warning with fans ahead of their Christmas food shop, to help others avoid potential disappointment.
Taking to Twitter, they said: “I’m telling you now out of the goodness of my own heart – so that you don’t do your big Christmas party food shop and end up disappointed – but Twiglets have changed their recipe and now they hit nowhere near the same.
They continued: “Does the packaging say they’ve changed their recipe? No. So, what’s my basis for this deduction, you may ask? That I spent nine months of pregnancy sending my boyfriend to obscure corner shops at midnight to desperately try and source me a packet. I KNOW what a Twiglet tastes like!”
Meanwhile, a second user claimed: “Attention all Twiglet lovers, the new recipe recognised by the green tub are disgusting, sawdust is the word I would use, I note the old recipe is back on the shelves, don’t get caught out this Christmas.”

A third Twitter user claimed that the new recipe had no flavour, saying: “NOOOO. They changed the recipe in May and it truly sucks. No salt and therefore no Twiglet flavour.”
“What’s happened to the once mighty Twiglet?” Another asked. It used to be the supreme savoury snack – been avid fan for some 45 years!
“But now instead of the yeast extract staying delicious, tangy and moist, they instead always taste bitter & burnt! Pls bring back the old recipe!” They added.
Taking to popular forum Reddit, another person wrote: “After my night shift at a well-known supermarket fancied a snack thought I would go with Twiglets. So disappointed the Marmite taste has totally gone no marmite burn at the corners of the lips think an Ella’s baby veggie stick might have more flavour.”
According to a spokesperson at Pladis UK&I – the company that owns Twiglets – the new recipe has a handful of health benefits and the “defining characteristics” were maintained.
They told The Mirror: “In May, Pladis unveiled a new, reformulated recipe for Twiglets. We did this to meet the needs of consumers choosing healthier diets.
“But in doing so it was absolutely crucial to ensure that the defining characteristics of a product with the heritage of Twiglets were maintained.”
