Why is Odell Beckham Jr. on the sidelines for Rams vs. Bills? Free agent WR sparks rumor mill at start of 2022 NFL season

OBJ made a return to the Rams’ house on Thursday.

Odell Beckham Jr. was a key piece of Los Angeles’ Super Bowl run in 2021, putting behind a tumultuous stint in Cleveland for Super Bowl glory in Hollywood.

Beckham suffered a torn ACL in Super Bowl 56, with the Rams opting not to re-sign him this offseason, and he remains a free agent as regular season games got underway on Thursday night.

The wideout might be a free agent, though, but the Rams made sure he was still was a part of the team. Prior to the game, OBJ hoisted the Lombardi Trophy, said some words to the Rams faithful and was part of the Super Bowl banner unveiling.

Also in attendance was recently retired left tackle Andrew Whitworth, who also had some words for the fans in attendance.

He made sure to chop it up with old friends, as well.

While Beckham’s return to SoFi Stadium might signal a Hollywood return to some, some fairly vague reports say not so fast: He’s just there to take in the game and relive some memories and have a part in festivities.

“I’m not sure I’d make too much of Odell Beckham being on the field pregame,” SI’s Albert Breer tweeted. “Maybe it means he’ll be a Ram again, maybe not. But that he’d show up for the banner being unveiled makes sense … I mean, he was on the team.”

Yahoo’s Charles Robinson, though, reports that Beckham’s “expected return to the Rams is right on track” following his appearance on Thursday.

So, consider Beckham’s attendance very much something that means nothing. Or nothing that means something. Either way, it happened, and that’s about all that it means right now.

Interpret it however you’d like.
