Screens are getting bigger and brighter every year, but sometimes you really want to go huge at home. And for that, you’re going to need a projector. The early days of digital projectors were pretty dire, with fuzzy, dull images and lots of artifacting. But the modern projector will make you forget those bad times. Even the low-end models have rich colors and remarkable power, and the fancy ones are nearly movie-theater quality.
Prime Day has a bunch of projectors on sale, but many of them aren’t worth the money. Here are five we think are solid picks.
Most of these projectors are rated for mixed use, meaning that they’ll perform best in a dark room or at night but are still functional in partial daylight or other illumination. Keep in mind that projector image quality varies wildly depending on the environment around it, so plan where you’re going to use it before you drop money on one.

Optoma UHD35x 4K Gaming Projector
When we first reviewed the Optoma UHD35 projector, we noted that it can sometimes be found at a discount. But dropping below $1000 is a comparatively rare deal for this solid 4K machine, which features remarkably low input lag for maximum gaming responsiveness, as well as both HDR10 and HLG HDR inputs. Output sharpness is solid, and you won’t find a lot to complain about with this projector, especially at this price.

XGIMI Halo+ Projector
We gave this beefy little mini projector an Editors’ Choice award in our review, saying that “it delivered a highly watchable image in our tests with both SDR and HDR input.” The Halo+ is rated at 900 ANSI lumens using AC power, slightly less if you’re running off the battery, which can run for 2.5 hours at full charge. It comes with built-in Android TV 10 for streaming via Wi-Fi, and even supports 3D with DLP-Link glasses.

XGIMI Horizon Pro Projector
The big brother of the Halo, we called the Horizon Pro “a projector worthy of its premium price” in our review. Boasting a durable 2,200 ANSI lumen LED light source that’s built to last, the Horizon outputs 2K video resolution for 2D and 3D video with ease. Automatic focus adjusts for the best image quality whenever you move the system, and built-in Android TV coupled with multiple HDMI ports let you get video on the screen with ease.

JMGO N1 Ultra 4K Projector
On the other end of the spectrum, this beast has a hefty price tag but delivers some of the crispest, clearest footage you can get in a home projector. The JMGO N1 just released a few years ago, and the company is pushing the envelope on performance with each subsequent model. Rated at 4,000 ANSI lumens courtesy of a triple laser light source, it offers high efficiency and a native contrast ratio of 1,600:1, which is absurd. You’ll forget you’re watching on a digital projector at times, which is high praise. Getting almost $500 off is a big incentive to pick one up.

Yaber Y30 1080p Projector
One of the more popular projector models we’ve seen among budget lines is Yaber’s Y30. The relatively new company is working hard to establish a niche in the crowded market with clever technology and features. This model has a native 1080P LCD resolution, which isn’t common in a unit under $200. It delivers strong, saturated images with ease and is bright enough to be used in most common situations. It’s not a luxury unit, but it gets the job done admirably.
