When giving your house a good clean, you may well neglect to take a proper look at your radiators, which can accumulate plenty of dust and grime if forgotten about for too long. With this in mind, cleaning experts have revealed how you can get your dirty radiator sparkling once more, and you won’t have to spend all day doing it.

As well as helping to keep your living spaces nice and fresh, a clean radiator also helps you to be more energy efficient, given that radiators coated in dust will have to work extra hard to heat your home, a particularly important factor to bear in mind now the colder weather is drawing in.

Cleaning gurus Purdy & Figg, who goes by the username @purdyandfigg, have therefore uploaded a helpful how-to video to TikTok, asking their followers to try and remember the last time they gave their radiator a good clean.

In the video, which has been viewed more than 50.5k times, the housekeeping whizz could be seen using a hairdryer to loosen up the dust on her radiator, before using her hoover to remove the large clumps which had gone all over the floor.

Grabbing a measuring jug, she then whipped together a quick cleaning mixture of warm water and Eco-Concentrate cleaner, before dipping in a microfibre cloth and wiping this all over the outside and the top of her radiator, using the leftover water to remove any excess dust.

As the voiceover explained: “Use a microfiber cloth to clean the outside and the top. And use the remaining water to remove the excess dust.”

According to the website BestHeating.com: “It’s important then to take the right measures and thoroughly clean your radiators at least once a year and keep on top of any dust that builds up. Making it a part of your daily or weekly cleaning routine is definitely a good idea.

“You may not become a millionaire overnight, but a few minutes here and there all add up and could lead to a big saving on the cost of your home heating over the lifespan of your system.”
