Holidaymaker’s disappointment as baked beans are confiscated at airport

One food-loving traveller has made a humorous travel blunder after trying to take their favourite canned goods through security – many people are criticising the person’s brand choice as they ‘aren’t Heinz’

As your long-awaited holiday approaches, one of the biggest hurdles to overcome is what to pack in your suitcase or cabin luggage. Depending on the length of your trip, you might be forced to become more selective with how many bikinis you pack or which trainers you’re taking, as luggage allowances will only stretch so far.

This is even more important when it comes to hand luggage, as airlines demand that passengers stick to strict rules on the weight and size of their bags, meaning that those who are brave enough to merely travel with cabin bag luggage have to get seriously creative with their packing skills.

One person has been mocked for packing an item in their hand luggage that most people would not deem to be an essential, or even a nice-to-have for a getaway. The eager traveller was stopped as airport security after attempting to take a can of bake beans through in their luggage, in a hilarious travel blunder that’s left many people in stitches.

A fellow airport goer found the packing fail so humorous that they chose to share it on the popular social media platform Reddit, after seeing the lonely can of bake beans sat on the airport security table.

The anonymous poster revealed that the humble food can had been ditched at Manchester airport, before sharing a photo of the tin next to the storage trays that travellers use to take their belongings through security.

The caption on the post reads: “Someone tried (and failed) to take a tin of baked beans through security at Manchester Airport”.

Many people flocked to the comments section to share their delight at the classically British blunder, while others shared the similarly unusual food items they have tried to take through airport security.

One person revealed: “I was at Manchester last year and there was a couple who had a really young baby, kid must have been under 1.

“Anyway, the security bloke is looking through their bag, and pulls out a huuuuuge [sic] tub of marmite.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever taken on a flight? Tell us in the comments…

“I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but then next thing I did hear was ‘you mean to tell me this whole tub is for that child?'”

Another said: “My girlfriend once checked with the security guy if she was allowed to take jam tarts through with her because she was worried that they might count the jam as a liquid.

“If anyone else is worried, you can take them through with you”.

In an incredible development to the bake bean tale, one fellow Redditor claimed that they saw another can of beans in Manchester airport on the very same day.

They wrote: “We’ll [sic] I saw a different tin of beans in terminal 2 just over 2 and a half hours ago”, before sharing a picture of the canned goods.

Another commenter admitted: “I once filled my liquids bag with creme eggs as I had thought the inside was a liquid, the security man laughed very hard”.

Eagle-eyed Reddit posters have even gone as far as finding out where the beans are from, with a few commenters suggesting they are from the British shop Spar.
