The Bengals are out to defend their AFC Championship banner, but it wasn’t a banner day for Joe Burrow.
Coming off his breakout season in 2021, Burrow got off to a pretty horrendous start in 2022, with the Bengals falling to the AFC North rival Steelers 23-20 in Week 1.
While Burrow engineered a game-tying drive with time expiring, it wasn’t his best effort. In all, Burrow’s threw 338 yards on 33-of-53 passing with two touchdowns, numbers that don’t look too bad — but he also threw four interceptions, which is a single-game career high for the Bengals passer, and lost a fumble in the effort.

“Obviously, you don’t want to throw four picks, but I never panicked,” Burrow said postgame. “We stayed even keeled and we came back and put us in position to win.”

Ultimately, it’s one game and Burrow and the Bengals proved that they’re the goods in 2021. It’s a new year, so the first performance may be more indicative of a hangover than their 2022 reality.
