Mum fumes as neighbours ask for her schedule – so she can take in their deliveries

If your neighbour had a parcel delivered and they were out, the likelihood you’d take it in for them is probably high – but one cheeky neighbour asked too much of the person next door

The pair wanted the woman to stay in and take their parcels just because she was off work

Christmas shopping can be really stressful, but when households can get things delivered straight to their door, it makes things less of a faff. Gone are the days of shoulder barging other customers out of the way to try and bag that perfect party dress, or feeling claustrophobic in a huge crowd of people who are all desperate to buy their family members the presents they desire.

While delivers do offer convenience, it’s easy to pop out of the house without remembering that a parcel which was meant to arrive – so you may ask a neighbour to look out for it. For the most part, they will be more than happy to oblige, but one woman was left seething at her neighbour’s demands as they asked her to look out for their post over a long stretch of time.

Taking to Mumsnet to rant, she explained: “I work in education so I’m off over Christmas holidays. My neighbour knows I’m off and said him and his girlfriend are planning on ordering Christmas gifts over my time off as they know I’m off and I can take them in.

“At first I thought they were joking but he went on to say if I gave him or her my number they can let me know a time frame for delivery.

“I’ve told them no I’m not willing to do that, I have my own plans and am planning on days out etc. He then said if I let him know days I’m in he can order around that!!!! Again I said no.”

Others defended the woman’s actions, saying that the neighbours seemed cheeky and shouldn’t have asked her to do that – even in jest.

One wrote: “Quite right. They’ll have to take their chances like everyone else. It’s nice to be neighbourly but these two seem to be cheeky. Go about your normal plans and definitely don’t take in any large items!”

Another said: “I think you are right to tell them no, it’s a bit cheeky to be honest. There’s nothing worse than having to stay in waiting for your own deliveries let alone for someone else.

“I take the odd delivery in for my neighbours, but stopped when I saw that they had changed their delivery address to my house. It’s also too much of a responsibility, delivery drivers just leave parcels on the doorstep now.

“I saw two men, one walking and one on a bike looking at doorsteps the other day, my husband told them to clear off. They were clearly looking to steal packages from doorsteps.”

Someone agreed, commenting: “Cheeky. I would do if I am home but on this organised scale, your neighbour is out of order.”

“Some people really do astound me”, one fumed.

Another wrote: “Who does he think you are? I’d say if I’m in it’s no problem but I’m not going to schedule my life around your parcels.”
